A side inscription can give a personal seal room for a date, short phrase, or dedication while leaving the main face as the primary mark. Seal of East’s current design tool treats this as an optional detail, so you can decide whether it belongs in your composition.
Choose a short message for the side
The live design page offers an optional edge inscription for a date, phrase, or dedication. It currently allows up to 40 characters and lists the addition at $29. A concise line is a practical starting point: it is easier to review for spacing and balance in the digital proof.
Decide whether to add a motif
The edge-motif choices shown in the design tool include text only, a floral flourish, an auspicious knot, bamboo or plum, or a custom reference. Pick a motif only if it supports the feeling you want; the main inscription should remain easy to understand.
Review the side detail in the proof
Before carving, Seal of East sends a digital proof for approval. The current design page says that motif and spacing are reviewed for balance before carving, and that carving does not begin before approval. Check the wording, line breaks, and placement in that proof. The page lists hand-finishing in 3–5 business days after proof approval.
